playing music again [Dec. 12th, 2007|11:02 am]
After a long hiatus I have begun working on learning to play guitar again.  I'd been promising myself to get into weekly lessons from a friend of mine but had procrastinated due to outside influences and insignificant circumstances.  Getting back into it now though.

I need to push myself on this one.

New game starting [Aug. 28th, 2007|02:58 pm]

So gaming is starting to happen again.  Greg is going to be running a D&D game set in a post apocalyptic fantasy style world where the Orcs have overtaken the world and driven the other races to near extinction.

My planned character is to be a fight with faith (which is rare in this period) who will eventually become a paladin.

Basic background is that the father of me and one of the other PCs is one of the few people left who still believes in the gods and he instilled that faith in his sons.  (I intend to turn Pally and the other player intends to become a priest).

Working on fleshing out the character a bit more and will be having a prelude on Sunday.  Any ideas or thoughts on character building are welcome as the idea is still a bit amorphous in my head.

Going to go with high piety level... relifgious fervor style fighter to begin with.

Oh Great Cthulhu!

I have been an extremely assiduous devotee this year.

In August, I burnt my copy of the Necronomicon (-75 points). In December, I fed [info]uruz to a Shoggoth (250 points). In July, I prepared an ocean voyage to R'lyeh (200 points). When the stars were right, I bombed a cultist gathering (-100 points). In April, I rescued [info]sugar_devil from being sacrificed (-200 points). In June, I called down the wrath of Yog-Sothoth upon [info]fisherking7 (65 points).

In short, I have been very good (140 points) and deserve to be promoted to High Priest.

Your humble and obedient servant,
Sarpathian

because I've been lazy [Nov. 11th, 2005|11:44 am]
So the latest update...

Continuing to enjoy my new job. The work is interesting and I'm definitely expannding my skill set here. Coworkers are nice and getting to travel around during the day is more interesting than stagnating in one place. I've been playing City of VIllains when I get home in time to do anything. My grandfather had a recurrence of Pancreatitis and walking pneumonia but seems to be recovering well.

This weekend is the weekend of canceled plans... but that's OK.

My fantasy football team took a hit with the loss of Priest Holmes for the season... damned concussions. But i continue to have a 7-2 record and lead my division... not sure how the hell I managed that.

My car is the worse for wear after a truck smashed my right side mirror last weekend. No other immediately interesting things... aside from maybe going to see Lo Faber play (guitarist from God Street Wine who no one reading this knows) in December. Pretty quiet for the most part.

Howie's roommate Cass suggested that the real estate market would bottom out by April so I may delay my moving out til then... I'm supposed to give him a call.

That's the latest updates from the world of I... oh the excitement.

real update [Oct. 11th, 2005|11:36 am]
OK... been a while since I did a real update.

News in the land of me...
Got a new job working IT for Warren Systems Group. Still work but now at financial offices.

Mom is doing very well after her treatments... all looks good.

I will soon be searching for a co-op or condo to buy (within the next few weeks the search begins).

Aside from that the cats are well... and I'm healthy and busy.

I saw Serenity and Spamalot and Alan Tudyk (Wash) was Lancelot. Kind of amusing to see an actor on stage the night after you saw him on the big screen.

I think that's all for now....

Not because you have to, but because you WANT to! Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal... and then tag 5 friends and ask them to post it to theirs.

- Listening to music (live or on my ipod). Good music always puts me into a more relaxed state.

- Reading a good book that I can't put down.

- Playing with animals (be it my cats or my friends dogs/cats/whatevers)

- Playing paino/keyboards

- Being in a secluded place outside the city where I can stare at the stars with a nice glass of wine

[music |Crackity Jones - The Pixies (live)]

Tonight is poker night at Lenny's place out in East Northport. Last month was the first one and I ran the table in the hold 'em tournament. I am fairly confident in my skills at poker and feel I can regularly at least break even. I also went out with Matt last night for Sushi at Takara. Had some nice rolls and a Kirin. Headed home to a bit of CoH and now back at work. I was a good son and brought the fam back soem sushi too. Well gotta get my poker face set for tonight...

General Update [Jan. 28th, 2005|08:25 am]
I've been going through a repetitive process the last few weeks. Work, Home, CoH, Sleep. Once home I am usually unable to leave for any duration as Mom is now on her Chemo treatment and I try to do what I can around the house to help out. She's doing pretty well over all. Only mild discomfort and her oncologist says if that's what she feels now it is likely what she will feel for the next few weeks. I have been ble to escape into my computer for a few hours each day as opposed to being able to get out of my house. The snow is hellish for me as it makes it difficult to drive away for a few hours of escape. I've been heading to Howie's place on Sundays to hang out and blow off steam but last week I could not even do that and it is a bit frustrating. On a positive note I received my copy of the3 Pixies show from December 11th and the quality and performance is amazing. Better than the live disc in the Death to the Pixies collection. That's about the extent right now.

Grrrrrrr (prepare for a rant) [Nov. 3rd, 2004|11:47 am]
[mood | angry]
[music |Strangers - Portishead]

OK... I'm very angry and disappointed. This country has overwhelmingly disappointed me. I can blame false votes and cheating and a million other things but the fact of the matter is Kerry lost. Did he lose because of ignorance and hatred in middle America? Well that is certainly part of it. Did he lose because Bush ran a campaign which stated he could protect our country (even though the worst attack on American soil in the history of this nation occurred on his watch)? Again a part of it. But the fact of the matter is there are a lot of people in America that just don't care and that is the major reason we have 4 more years of this puppet who can't complete a sentence.

Americans as a whole don't put a lot of effort into learning what is going on around them. I heard arguments from a coworker stating that they liked Bush because he was more moral. This is a man with 2 DWIs who had a cocaine addiction (information available to any who look for it) and is now the most powerful man in the free world. These past deeds don't scream morality to me. He has driven several corporations into the ground so lets let him make these horrible decisions for our entire nation. He has sent thousands of young men and women over to Iraq to overthrow that country because of nonexistent weapons of mass destruction. People are dying because of the things this man has done.

Now people may say Clinton was immoral because he was an adulterer. OK. Fine. Give me a choice between an amoral adulterer and a moral war-mongering cowboy and I'll take the adulterer any day! It also reinforces the hypocrisy of our nation where adultery is a fairly common practice (which no one likes to mention).

This is a sad day for our nation as we give into the fears that this administration has foisted upon us and watch them remove our civil liberties. We will not have a stronger position on the world stage because of this man. We will have hundreds if not thousands of Americans dead on foreign soil. I can almost guarantee a draft will be instituted in which our youth is forced to participate in war by their government whether they believe in the cause or not. Fighting terrorism is a wonderful idea but the way that our nation is carrying this out is abhorrent. We still have troops in Afghanistan but the nation has forgotten about that because of Iraq. I did not. I have a friend who just returned from Afghanistan so I am aware of how real that war still is.

We're fighting against a religious jihad and the chances of it ending are very slim. Bush will likely aggravate the situation. The economy is awful and it is not getting better. I don't know what to think anymore....

I want to love my country but I find myself loathing it more and more each day. I hate that Bush was able to use a terrorist attack which killed thousands of New York residents as a rallying point for his reelection. I find it demeaning. Right now I hate politics and I feel powerless. I have never felt this way in regards to my country before but I am thoroughly incensed about this now.

I kept saying to myself his regime is almost at an end but now I see I was wrong... I guess I'm looking for guidance and rationality. I want a leader I can admire or support on some idealogical framework not one whom I feel embarrassed to admit was chosen by our country and whose ideals I adamantly disagree with. This is a man who rules by fear and hatred and is taking away personal freedoms right and left. Our personal freedoms is what we are supposed to be fighting for, not our capitalist values. I have no problems with capitalism, but I do not believe that it gives us the ground to hold ourselves, as Americans, as superior to others around us. This superiority of thought and action has been a focal point of the Bush regime.

I have too many thoughts running through my head and am too upset by todays events to continue writing. There are no easy solutions but I don't believe our government is in the right and this has disheartened me greatly.

Last night.... [Oct. 26th, 2004|01:20 pm]
[mood | anxious]
[music |Rhythm and Blues Alibi - Gomez]

Been a while since I've done a general post. I went to see Gomez last night. They kicked ass and took names. Many songs that I have rarely heard live were played and I was present for a cover of not fade away. First time i saw them do it though I have a copy on my ipod. They were on. I thought the show was on par with the one from the spring though Howie disagreeed with me. I think he has a bias against Irving Plaza as a venue. I must admit Webster Hall made for a very interesting venue. Tonight I go to Irving to see the gomez marathon part 2. I'm such a music fanatic. 2 Gomez shows and three upcoming Pixies shows in December. I must express my concerns about the Pixies shows. While I have no doubt that Frank, Kim, Joey, and Dave will kick ass and take names when the strut out on stage I worry over the depth of the catalog. If they included Frank and Kim's solo/Breeders/& the Catholics songs I would have no concerns whatsoever but I worry that I might be seeing more or less the same show three times. Gomez left out a lot of tracks they usually do live and performed a bunch that they never do (like A Seaside Town Made of Ice Cream Slowly Melting). Tonights show will kick major ass but will the Pixies shows live up to my high expectations? My musical fanaticism at it's finest. Also am suffering from slight sleep deprivation. There was an awesome gomez shirt at the show but the largest size was Medium and most people who know me are aware I need a large or XL... and I've only been able to wear the larges since I've been hitting the gym. I shall persevere and bounce up and down on the floor of Irving Plaza once more this evening.... Hope all is well with all those who read this. Feel free to comment upon my ramblings and I will update more often.

new games.... geekiness ensues [Oct. 12th, 2004|08:18 am]
[mood |working]
[music |Girl - The Beatles]

So this weekend was kind of relaxing. I needed it after the work weekend from hell last week. So on Saturday I lounged, played CoH, NHL 2004 and Madden 2004 then went out to dinner with the grandparents, my parents, my aunt and uncles and my cousins for my grandparents anniversary. We went to a restaurant in Port Washington called Fishkabob and it was surprisingly good. I had a good bowl of Manhattan Clam Chowder then had a Chilean Sea Bass in Honey - Horseradish sauce and finished up with a piece of Tiramisu and an espresso. Very nice meal.

Sunday I hung out with Howie. We hung around at his place for a bit as he showed off his guitar pedals. Then we went out to Best Buy where I bought the new Cake CD, Dolittle by the pixies (only owned the greatest hits set i'm ashamed to admit), Invader Zim Volume 2, X-Men Legends, and Mortal Kombat: Deception. I also picked up Howie's gift of the Invade Zim Volume 1 and 2 and a second PS2 controller (transparent blue). We returned to his place ordered some Thai food and watched a few Invader Zim episodes. Then we played 2 games of MLB 2004 followed by me singing while he played guitar. I need to get better at remembering lyrics though. He then was setting in to watch the basebal game so I headed home. Once I got home I dove into Mortal Kombat. I have unlocked 4 characters at this point I believe.

Last night I left home at a reasonable hour and played Mortal Kombat and X-Men Legends. Legends was very gauntlet like... run through a level breaking things and killing enemies. There are some teamwork aspects but I'll have to get past playing around in the danger room and exploring the mansion to see those I guess. So far I am enjoying both MK6 and X-men Legends though I felt more engrossed by the new X-Men title as most of my friends will outright refuse to fight me in console fighting games... take up the challenge! :)

Work HELL!!!!!! [Sep. 30th, 2004|10:32 am]
[mood | exhausted]
[music |Venus in Furs - Velvet Underground]

So I am now back at the office after yet another meeting. We're updating our RIS system and I am fried. I have to work Saturday and Sunday. Between work I have Howie's band, Loki The Grump at Acme underground at 11PM on Saturday night (which happens to be his birthday). Also I am having my cats declawed and neutered on Friday which means I need to take them to the Vet tonight and pick them up on Sunday. I might be able to get my parents to pick them up which would be immensely helpful. But there is no rest or relaxation scheduled for me this weekend. I am quickly burning out... not enjoying my life at the moment. The only positive going for me is the paycheck will be VERY nice with all the overtime I'll have put in. I've been at work past 11 twice this week already. Ugggghhhhh........

On a positive note it's Thursday so that means I only have 9 more days until a real weekend.

Sickly weekend [Sep. 7th, 2004|10:31 am]
[mood |improving]
[music |Cortez the Killer - Gov't Mule]

I want to extend apologies to all those I did not see this weekend. I was having a race to see how quickly I could go through a box of tissues and decided in my benevolence to not involve others in this activity. So since I was homebound I spent a lot of time watching the US Open and bad movies, watching Ween Live in Chicago again, and playing City of Heores. I actually met up with Greg and was able to team up with him a bit so I had a little social interaction while preventing the spread of my disease. I did wish to see the light of day but instead used my time to gain strength so that these infectious baddies would learn their lesson and die horrible deaths. Once I am recuperated (within the next day or two) I plan to be much more interesting in partaking in events that require me to leave my house. At least I had my cats to keep me company and demand my attention and affection. See you all soon.

Return from GenCon [Aug. 23rd, 2004|11:57 am]
[mood |working]
[music |'ol 55 - Tom Waits]

So I'm back... Got home late last night and plugged into CoH for a bit.... damn addictive MMORPGs. Anyway synopsis of GenCon:

- Saw a bunch of industry people I knew
- NPCed in "Ghost Engines in the Sky" Nick's Deadlands game of existential horror
- Had some nice meals with Greg, Tami, Nick, [info]sugar_devil and [info]firebranch
- Played in a strange time warp LARP
- Met with a bunch of our players from Cryptocon (Origins)
- Played a bit of CoH when it was free (damn addiction!)
- Bailed on an X-Men LARP that seemed to be going down in flames
- Went to the AD&D 30th anniversary party and picked up some swag
- Saw the costume contest
- Watched Greg win the GenCon World Series of Poker [now I'll have to take some cash off him next time we play :) ] Congrats Greg!
- Failed to run a demo of Zero Movement which only had one player
- Wandered around the dealer room and bought some Munchkin expansions and the new White Wolf books even though I tried to resist

That pretty much sums up my GenCon. It was fun but it's nice to get back home to my cats and New York life too.

You Know You're From New York City When...

You say "the city" and expect everyone to know that this means Manhattan.

You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.

You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle
to Battery Park at 3:30 on the Friday before a long weekend, but can’t find
Wisconsin on a map.

Hookers and the homeless are invisible.

The subway makes sense.

You believe that being able to swear at people in their own
language makes you multi-lingual.

You've considered stabbing someone just for saying "The Big Apple".

The most frequently used part of your car is the horn.

You call an 8' x 10' plot of patchy grass a yard.

You consider Westchester "upstate".

You think Central Park is "nature."

You see nothing odd about the speed of an auctioneer's speaking.

You're paying $1,200 for a studio the size of a walk-in closet
and you think it’s a "steal."

You've been to New Jersey twice and got hopelessly lost both times.

You pay more each month to park your car than most people in
the U.S. pay in rent.

You haven't seen more than twelve stars in the night sky since
you went away to camp as a kid.

You go to dinner at 9 and head out to the clubs when most Americans
are heading to bed.

Your closet is filled with black clothes.

You haven't heard the sound of true absolute silence since the 80s,
and when you did, it terrified you.

You pay $5 without blinking for a beer that cost the bar 28 cents.

You take fashion seriously.

Being truly alone makes you nervous.

You have 27 different menus next to your telephone.

Going to Brooklyn is considered a "road trip."

America west of the Hudson is still theoretical to you.

You've gotten jaywalking down to an art form.

You take a taxi to get to your health club to exercise.

Your idea of personal space is no one actually standing
on your toes.

$50 worth of groceries fit in one paper bag.

You have a minimum of five "worst cab ride ever" stories.

You don't notice sirens anymore.

You live in a building with a larger population than most
American towns.

Your doorman is Russian, your grocer is Korean your deli man is Israeli,
your building super is Italian, your laundry guy is Chinese, your favorite
bartender is Irish, your favorite diner owner is Greek, the watchseller on your
corner is Senegalese, your last cabbie was Pakistani, your newsstand guy
is Indian and your favorite falafel guy is Egyptian.

You're suspicious of strangers who are actually nice to you.

You secretly envy cabbies for their driving skills.

You think $7.00 to cross a bridge is a fair price.

Your door has more than three locks.

Your favorite movie has DeNiro in it.

You consider eye contact an act of overt aggression.

You run when you see a flashing "Do Not Walk" sign at the intersection.

You're 35 years old and don't have a driver's license.

You ride in a subway car with no air conditioning just because there are seats available.

You're willing to take in strange people as roommates simply to help pay the rent.

There is no North and South. It's uptown or downtown.

When you're away from home, you miss "real" pizza and "real" bagels.

You know the differences between all the different Ray's Pizzas.

You're not in the least bit interested in going to Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Your internal clock is permanently set to know when Alternate Side of the Street parking
regulations are in effect.

You know what a bodega is.

You know how to fold the New York Times in half, vertically, so that you can read
it on the subway or bus without knocking off other passenger's hats.

Someone bumps into you, and you check for your wallet.....

You cringe at hearing people pronounce Houston St. like the city in Texas

Film crews on your block annoy you, not excite you.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from NYC.
